Founded in 2003, The Australian Barrel Horse Association (ABHA), Capricorn Coast Circuit Inc is a non-profit organisation that is dedicated to providing a family orientated horse sporting event as well as an opportunity for people to show case their sublimely bred horses in a speed event.
Our club is affiliated with the Australian Barrel Horse Association, the largest barrel racing club in the country. Our Commitment is to deliver the highest -profile barrel racing events in the Capricorn Region, catering for both local and interstate competitors.
These events provide local competitors with the opportunity to compete at a top level in their own region.
What is Barrel Racing?
Barrel racing is primarily a speed event in which a horse and rider attempt to complete a cloverleaf pattern around pre-set barrels in the fastest time. Though both boys and girls compete at the youth level and men compete in some amateur venues and jackpots, in collegiate and professional ranks, it is primarily a rodeo event for women.
It combines the horse's athletic ability and the horsemanship skills of a rider in order to safely and successfully manoeuvre a horse in a pattern around three barrels (typically three fifty-five-gallon metal or plastic drums) placed in a triangle in the centre of an arena.
Barrel Racing is now one of the fastest growing, affordable family horse sports in Australia and it is our goal to keep it growing. With competitors of all ages and riding abilities, we are proud of the level of horsemanship and skill that our members possess, making this sport bigger and better each year.
The club is also highly involved in promoting Junior Events and as such has a large junior following. By providing a wide variety of events the ABHA Capricorn Coast Circuit allows a fun filled day for the entire family.
